Review: Oddbird’s Blanc de Blancs

I want to start by saying that I was really excited to try this. I feel like I’ve heard so much about Oddbird as this elegant, elusive wine brand. So, naturally, as soon as I saw the bottle of Oddbird Blanc de Blancs, I grabbed it (and I got the last one!). I’m not even sure my brain registered that it was a Blanc de Blancs until I got home because I was really just that excited to see the brand at all.

With that being said, I think it was a bit of a let down… (for me personally, at least). I HATE even saying that because I wanted to love it so badly. Maybe the vast majority of people just like their bubbly a bit sweeter than I do? Don’t get me wrong, it was delicious and I would 100% recommend it to others! I think I just expected it to be more on the dryer side (that I associate with nice bubbly) with all the positive reviews and it wasn’t.

Anyway, let’s rewind a bit and go through first impressions! First of all, I LOVE how the bottle uses “Liberated from Alcohol” to describe it as alcohol free. I’m also just obsessed with the Oddbird logo because “Odd” looks like a % sign. This is truly a 10/10 on the label and bottle design front. Very clever and well done!

Color wise, I think it’s accurate. I’ve noticed that some non-alcoholic sparkling wines seem to be a bit darker than their alcoholic counterparts, but not this one. The effervescence was also authentic and it had the same ‘mouth feel’ as traditional sparkling wines. It has a very nice aroma with some hints of sweetness. I couldn’t put my finger on what exactly I was smelling, but after looking on their website, it’s definitely the honey flavor they describe.

Flavor wise, it reminds me a bit of an elevated sparkling apple cider, which seemed to be pretty on the money since the website mentions “tones of crispy Granny Smith apples.” I felt like it almost got sweeter the more I drank, if that makes any sense. I thought I really liked it when I had my first sip, but as I was finishing my glass, I couldn’t really see myself having another.

Overall, I did like this wine, and if you’re a fan of sweet wine, for sure BUY THIS!! But if you’re like me and searching for something on the dryer side, I would probably pass on this one. The price point is also a bit high for me if I’m not completely in love with the wine.

I still have high hopes for Oddbird as a whole (maybe this is just one of their sweeter wines) and if I see this elusive bird in the wild again, I can tell you for sure that I will be buying it
