Review: Blind Tiger Southside
I didn’t have super high expectations for this drink because I’m not usually a fan of gin. With that being said, the essence of juniper is NOT the same as gin.
So first impressions:
Color wise, it looks very similar to lemonade or limeade.
I could smell the mint basically the second I heard the hissssss opening the can.
**Second can from the right**
I want to spend a little more time discussing the smell because I’m obsessed with the aroma. You know how some smells just evoke a feeling? This aroma immediately relaxed me. I could practically envision myself walking out the locker room doors of a spa in my fluffy robe waiting for a massage. It also reminds me of my “sleepytime” tea, and I could see myself drinking this to unwind at night. Bottom line, if this smell was a candle, I would buy it.
The taste was absolutely 100% not what I would have ever expected based on the smell. The first flavor that hits the tongue is … sweet?? At first, it tastes like a mixture of sweet lemonade and slightly tart limeade. The mint and juniper are more of a secondary, or even after taste. My first thought was to call this a minty margarita.
I know this sounds like a really odd combination, but the contrasting flavors seem to go perfectly together. I couldn’t help myself – I just kept going back sip after sip. This would be one of those cocktails that sneaks up on you to the point that you don’t even realize it’s empty until you hear the sad sound of the straw struggling to grab the last few drops.
Stay tuned for more reviews to come on the remaining flavors!
